Aaron's Week 14 Waiver Wire Picks

Every Tuesday, I will be bringing to light the best potential waiver wire additions across fantasy football. Let’s begin with some basic principles for each article and some of the qualifiers that will be used each week. First off, the minimum rostered percentage threshold that I will be using is 50%, so any player that is rostered in ESPN leagues above that percentage will not be written about (until near the end of the season when it gets harder to wade through the constantly thinning waiver wire.) Second, not all waiver wire additions are created equal and all are dependent on the roster you have. Each week I will be writing about players and the potential they bring to your fantasy roster, but I obviously don’t know who is on your team or what you may need in terms of roster construction. If I say a quarterback is the top waiver wire addition for the week, and you have Patrick Mahomes, that doesn’t mean you need to add that player to your team while dropping a potentially valuable player in order to do so. Third, I will frequently be using the abbreviation FAAB, which refers to Free Agent Acquisition Budget. This refers to the potential amount you might spend to acquire someone off the waiver wire if your league has that as a part of their system.

James Cook- Running Back, BUF

ESPN Roster Percentage- 25.3%

Over the last few weeks, James Cook has looked like the best running back for the Bills, and it is finally reflecting in his stats. The rookie led the Bills in rushing carries and was 2nd on the team with 6 receptions in their Thursday night win against the Patriots. Cook’s involvement has limited the value of himself and Singletary, making the backfield pair into more of a true committee than compared to the beginning of the season. The late season surge has made Cook a more intriguing option as a flex candidate and also gives him the opportunity to make a playoff push for fantasy managers. I would spend a high-end waiver wire priority for Cook and a 10% FAAB bid.

Zonovan Knight- Running Back, NYJ

ESPN Roster Percentage- 39.3%

Whatever the Jets have done in their running back room has been working so far this season. Whether it was Breece Hall, Michael Carter, or now Zonovan Knight, they have been producing in the run game, and it has been great for fantasy managers. Knight has had over 100 total yards in his last two games, and with the uncertainty of Michael Carter’s status going into Week 14, Knight looks to be a locked in flex play. I would be willing to use a high-end waiver wire priority and a 5% FAAB bid.
